My Latest Podcast: Review of Creed, Kobe Bryant Retirement, and More

bingesportscastMy latest podcast is ready to go at Binge Media and for this week’s episode of the Binge SportsCast, I’m joined by Binge Movie Aftertaste host, Garrett Collins. Garrett doesn’t pretend to be the biggest sports guy in the world, but after our three-episode series on the Rocky franchise (you can get the links by going to the Podcasts page), I decided to have him on my show to finish up our talk as we give a full review of the latest installment in the series, Creed. THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS SHOW!!! If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I urge you not to listen until you do. We start talking about it around the 34:00 mark, so consider yourself warned.

However, before we get to the flick, I do actually talk some sports, seeing as it’s a sports show and all, by talking about the story that hit me the most this week, that being the announcement that Kobe Bryant is retiring. I’ve got a lot to say on that, but I also hit on the remarkable 19-0 start by the Golden State Warriors. Just before getting to the review, I also comment on the Fury-Klitschko fight that took place over the weekend and give some quick thoughts on the heavyweight division and what needs to happen. This was a fun show and I certainly hope you get the chance to get around to it. Enjoy.

The Rocky Retrospective Podcast Series-Part 3

Well, these podcasts keep getting longer and longer, but I think it’s because neither Garrett or I wanted this series to end, but it has…well, sort of. Today at Binge Media, the final entry in this Rocky Retrospective podcast series was released, and once again, we had an absolute blast on the show as we discussed Rocky V and Rocky Balboa. If you haven’t listened to the first two shows where we break down the first four films, head over to the Podcast page to get to the links to get caught up. Here are a few of the questions that we tackle in this edition of the Binge Movie Aftertaste.

  • What was the state of boxing at the time of both these releases?
  • How bad were Union Kane’s line deliveries?
  • What exactly did Paulie do to lose the Balboa estate?
  • Just how long was Rocky in Russia?
  • How many f’n Dukes are in Rocky V?!
  • Why is the Rocky franchise’s continuity more messed up than Friday the 13th‘s?
  • How much do we hate Larry Merchant?
  • How much do we love Duke?
  • What’s the guy from Heroes doing here, and how did he get the role of Rocky’s son in Rocky Balboa?
  • Can Stallone possibly win Best Supporting Actor for his role in Creed?
  • Where can you hear our final views on Creed?
  • Was Sage Stallone a bad case of Coppola style nepotism or did he come through as Rocky’s son?
  • What former franchise cast member eventually sued Sly?

If you’ll notice, there’s a question in there on when we’ll be talking about Creed, and you can get that answer in the show along with everything else, but since I’m such a nice guy, I’ll go ahead and post a spoiler. On my show, the Binge SportsCast, I will be bringing Garrett in on December 2nd to discuss the new movie, which he’s already seen and is already going nuts over it. I’ll be seeing it next Tuesday night, and we’ll be breaking it down soon, so stay tuned for that. Once again, I want to thank Garrett for letting me crash his show to talk about my favorite movie franchise of all time. We’ve got some plans for more shows like this coming up next spring, which we’ll be discussing after the new year, so you know I’ll be bringing updates on that as well. With all of that being said, here’s the final installment of the Rocky Retrospective. Enjoy.

The Rocky Retrospective Podcast Series-Part 2

In case you missed it last week, I’ve been taking part in a new podcast series at Binge Media, where I join Garrett Collins on his show, the Binge Movie Aftertaste, and we simply talk all things Rocky. If you’re not aware, this is my favorite movie franchise of all-time, so Garrett certainly made the right call by contacting me for this. In Part 1, which you can get HERE if you didn’t listen to it yet, we discussed Rocky and Rocky II, and it was everything I thought it could be. The original is my favorite film, so I certainly had plenty to say on that, and the sequel was certainly a great movie as well, so before getting to the second part in the series, make sure to go back and check out part one.

For part two, we get into what could be considered the “popcorn movies” of the franchise, Rocky III and Rocky IV. Here’s how Garrett broke down this podcast.

  • Why does Paulie waste a good bottle of liquor by throwing it into a cool Rocky pinball machine?
  • Why is Sly so damn handsome?
  • What the hell does Rocky say when Mickey dies?
  • Just what did Paulie do with that robot?
  • Why didn’t Rocky turn around and run after Drago says ‘I must break you?’
  • What Rocky IV moment actually got me to get up and cheer like an asshole in the theater?
  • How much of Rocky IV‘s budget was spent on the James Brown production?
  • Why was Hogan FIRED for doing Rocky III?
  • How the hell did Sly include Christ metaphors in the ultra montage heavy Rocky IV?
  • Why isn’t Rocky’s eye a concern anymore?
  • How did Dolph Lundgren scare home invaders away, without even being there?
  • Why haven’t we christened Rocky for ending Communism?

If that doesn’t draw you in, I’m not sure what will. We’re leading up to the release of Creed in a couple of weeks, so join us as we continue this awesome series. I’ve got to say that I’m having a great time with these podcasts, and we hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we did recording them. Click the link below to check out part 2.

The New Rocky Retrospective Podcast Series

If you really know me, then you probably know that I’m a HUGE fan of the Rocky movies. With the release of Creed, the spinoff starring Michael B. Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed, only a few weeks away, my Binge Media brother, Garrett Collins, decided he wanted to do a new podcast series chronicling the entire set of films, and who better to bring in than…..well, me.

If you’re not familiar with Garrett, he’s been with Binge Media for a little over a year now, and he’s one of the most knowledgeable people in the film industry, and I honestly don’t say that just because we work together on the site. For one, he’s actually in the business, but that’s not even the real point. The way he breaks down films is extraordinary, and he’s seriously one of the only reviewers that I read these days, simply because he’s one of the few out there that can write a review without giving things away. Not only does he write reviews, but he’s also the host of one of the best shows on the network, The Binge Movie Aftertaste, and he’s had some great guests on his show before; hell, he interviewed the writer of Jaws for God’s sake, so yeah, it’s not just some random show.

So when he asked me to do this series a few months ago, I immediately agreed to do it, and we’ve both been chomping at the bit to start this thing, and it’s finally here. When we were first talking about the format, he had broken it up into two shows. For part one, we would talk about the first three movies and then do the next three for part two. Simple enough, right? Well, when we started recording last week, we got through talking about the first movie before taking a break and realized that two shows wouldn’t be enough. We got into so much detail that we’ve decided to make this a three-part series, and we’ll break down two movies at a time, with this first one covering Rocky (my favorite movie of all-time) and Rocky II.

On a quick note before I give you the link to the first show, I must say how much I enjoyed doing this. Hell, I felt bad because I thought that I was talking too much and wrecking Garrett’s show, but it’s just what talking about this franchise does to me. It means so much to me on a personal level, which you’ll hear in the show, so I can’t thank Garrett enough for letting me come on and talk about this amazing franchise, and as soon as I can get past this damn flu, I can’t wait to get started on part two. But I’ll shut up now. The link below will take you to the show. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.

The Luke Norris Podcast Experience

Perhaps that title is a little misleading, as I’m not doing a specific podcast for The Luke Norris Experience, not yet anyway, but over the last six months, podcasting has become an important part of building my personal brand. About a year after I started writing for Binge Media, I had a conversation with the powers that be about doing my own show, as the Binge Sports brand had gotten a decent following. They were looking to expand their network anyway, so that’s how the Binge SportsCast came to be.

We started with a little test run, just to gauge a response, which turned out very well, and we were off and running. The Binge SportsCast officially premiered on April 22, and since its inception, it’s gotten a nice little following and will only continue to grow. So, I decided it was finally time for you to have a place to access all of the shows that I’ve done. I mean, you can access all of Binge Media’s podcasts on iTunes, but if you’re looking for my shows, I invite you to check out the new “Podcasts” page. Technically, it’s two pages, as one is dedicated to the Binge SportsCast, while the other is dedicated to the guest spots I’ve done on other shows on the network, including the “Up Close and Personal w/ Luke Norris” show that I did back in June, which was an absolutely amazing experience.

If you’re already a listener, then I appreciate it. If you haven’t checked out a show yet, give one a listen and let me know what you think. Click on the links below to give the pages a quick visit. Enjoy.
