Baseball

As sports go, baseball was my first true love. Truth be told, the game even helped me learn to read as I would sit with my grandfather while he perused Chicago Cubs articles in the Chicago Tribune. And just like that, I was hooked.

While I’d eventually end up playing more basketball and golf as I got older, there’s no denying that baseball took up a hefty portion of my time as a youngster. If I wasn’t outside playing it, I was watching the Cubs on WGN with Harry Caray and Steve Stone on the call.

Sadly, it’s not been a topic on which I’ve written a ton in recent years as it simply wasn’t a big focus of the positions I’ve held.

But that hasn’t kept me from watching or even taking the old-school route by listening to a game on the radio on my patio on a warm summer night.

While I tend to be a bit more neutral these days with my fandom — I always do my best to stay unbiased in this business — the Cubs are still my favorite team. And watching them win the World Series in 2016 is still easily the greatest moment I’ve witnessed in sports.

In short, this wonderful game will always hold a special place in my heart.
